Fiji is slap bang in the centre of the South Pacific and for many divers the flight time is long and time consuming. Whilst Fiji is the 'soft coral capital' of the world with sweeping technicolour reefs draped in every colour and texture you can imagine it also has manta rays, pelagics such as humpbacks in season (May to Oct) as well as the world famous Beqa Lagoon 'Shark Marine Reserve'. It is one of the only places in the world where divers are assured of experiencing the immense thrill of tiger sharks, bulls, lemons, grey nurse, silver tips and a full gamut of reef sharks.

DIVING WITH SHARKS IN FIJI
DON'T MISS DIVING WITH SHARKS IN FIJI

There are three Fiji dive resorts that provide divers with the exhilarating spectacle of the shark dives. All three of the resorts, Beqa Lagoon Resort, Waidroka Bay Resort and Barefoot Kuata Resort, operate the shark dives by arranging an arena on the sea bed with a dead coral wall behind which divers kneel. Food attracts the sharks into the area - firstly with the scent and later the sharks are hand fed by the Fijian shark 'guardians.'
Up to 20 bull sharks can arrive for this exhilarating spectacle and at Beqa Lagoon Resort its proprietary shark dive, the Cathedral, draws up to 6 tiger sharks. Often these are incredibly large pregnant females which is a spell-binding experience.
All of the shark feeds are CONSERVATION based - the reefs in the protected Shark Marine Reserve were overfished and dead. Now, in exchange for a diver conservation fee, the Fijian village chiefs no longer grant fishing licences for the area which protects the sharks. The threat is still near - as can be seen by the number of long liner hooks embedded in the jaws of the Beqa Lagoon sharks .....
