Waterlust Fiji has dived many times on Rainbow Reef and firmly believes the best diving is achieved by paying close attention to expert advice on the timing of the currents. Most of the dives are soft coral drift dives and if the current is not running the corals are not in bloom, the fish are not feeding and the experience will be boring. Viani Bay is a recommended operator who dives the 30 sites of the Rainbow Reef according to the currents to get the most for their divers.

Sau Bay works hard to reduce its impact on the environment. Nestled in the heart of a tropical bay the resort has been designed to avoid the use of airconditioning, unnecessary refridgeration, water usage (by avoiding desalination procedures) and by focusing on home grown fruit and vegetables.
First Padi Eco Centre in Fiji - The owners of Sau Bay have even adopted the Great White Wall dive site and are very active in marine conservation.
The Great White Wall on Rainbow reef is a huge underwater wall covered in white soft corals that appear lilac in the blue of the ocean. The dive begins at around 12 metres deep as you enter a large tubular cav covered by sea fans and corals. As you emerge from the cave at 23 metres the full glory of the wall(which drops down to 100 metres) appears. Purple and yellow soft corals, colourful fish and white dendronepthya strewn ledges entice. Drift along the wall before ending at a beautiful garden of colourful fish and corals.
Rainbow Passage is a drift dive of maximum depth of 25 metres which has a variety of soft coral bommies teeming with anthias, There are seawhip colonies to explore and gorgonian fans. Expect schools of fusiliers and snapper and ocassional sharks and barracuda, The dive ends at a large expanse of fire coral bustling with damselfish and anthias.
The Zoo is a very busy site for fish schools. Barracuda, sharks, trevally and other pelagics can be seen in the blue water and on the other shoulder there are soft and hard corals, anemones and clownfish and a full range of tropical fish.
Cabbage Patch is a slope dive which focuses on a large expanse of cabbage coral (Turbinaria reniformis) also known as yellow scroll coral. These huge corals form whorl shapes as the new corallites seek sunshine to allow their symbiotic zooxanthellae algae to photosynthesise. Much of the cabbage coral is over a metre in height. The whorls are home to soldierfish and butterfly fish who hide amid the layers. Fusilier schools and other reef fish circle the site.
The dive is a spectacular array of purple and pink dendronepthya fizzing with small fish. Whips, red gorgonian fans and black sun coral intertwine with the purple soft corals. Trevally, reef sharks, basslets and fusilers can be expected to join you on your dive.
Jerry's Jelly slopes from 5m to 18m which the iconic 'jelly' coral stack sitting around 12 metres in depth. A boulder coral sits on top of the stack with white soft corals dangling vertically from the ledge. Pink, red and yellow soft corals have populated the inner walls and floor of the bommie. Fish life is prolific from nocturnal red soldierfish hiding in the shadows to sweetlips, anthias, parrotfish and garden eels in the surrounding sea bed.
Sau Bay is accessible by road transfer from Savusavu or a short boat ride from Taveuni - both airports are a direct flight away from Nadi International Airport.
